The principal of your school is keen to set up a student co-operative (co-op). a business entity which is managed and run by the students in the school compound. He hopes to use the profits from the co-op to help the needy students in the school. He would also want the students selected to set up and manage the co-op to learn and benefit from this meaningful experience.
Your Principal has tasked your class to draw up a letter of proposal for the student co-op as you study the Elements of Business Skills as a subject. As the monitor of the class, you call for a class meeting to discuss the different possibilities for the co-op. The input from your peers is as follows:
Jeevan suggests, "We should set up a shop loaning out and selling comic books. Many students love to read comics, especially Japanese manga. Those interested can borrow the comic books at a low cost while the fanatics may wish to purchase the comic books."
Mao Xian recommends, "We should set up a cafe for the students to hang out after school hours. Many students like to gather at popular cafes after school to have group study or just relax. Let us bring the cafe to our school which is a safer environment."
Gary proposes, "Let us set up a shop to sell trendy t-shirts. Teenagers like us practically live in t-shirts and jeans other than our school uniform so I am sure we will have a lot of customers. We can also provide t-shirt printing services to those who wish to personalise their t-shirts or create class t-shirts."
You consider your peers' input and come to a decision. Write a letter of proposal to your principal to recommend the most suitable idea for the co-op, giving reasons to justify your choice.
You should also include in your proposal what your class can learn from this experience, the operational details of the co-op and how your class intends to promote the co-op to the school population.
Set your letter out correctly, in clear, accurate English and use a convincing tone so that your principal will accept your recommendation.
