You are advised to write between 250 and 350 words for this section.
Read the information carefully and plan your answer before writing.

A successful graduate o fyour school has given a large sum of money for the benefit of needy students in your school.  These students have suggested three possible projects as to how the money could be put to good use.  As the leader of the Student Welfare Club, you have been asked to decide on the most meaningful one.  A school assembly session has been set aside for the generous benefactor to hand the cheque over to the principal and make a short inspirational speech to the students.

The needy students have suggested three ideas:

Mahmud's idea:
"we could certainly do with some extra tuition.  As a graduating student, I often wish I had the money to hire a good tutor."

Geeta's idea:
"With this amount of money, many of us will be able to afford to buy a home computer and even pay for internet service.  Think of how easy it would be to do research and projects!"

Boon Leong's idea:
"Let's give it to the deserving needy students to help pay for school overseas trips.  This year there are trips to exotic countries like Vietnam and it's too bad that we can't afford to go."

Decide which idea you think is the most meaningful.  After you have made your choice, you have to write a letter to this alumnus:
  • to attend the ceremony, explaining its purpose
  • saying when and where it will be held
  • giving details of the idea that has been chosen and why you think it is the most meaningful use of the money donated
Your letter should be in clear, correct English with a welcoming, polite tone, showing how appreciative your school is for the donation.
