You are advised to write between 250 and 400 words on one of the following topics.
At the head of your composition write the number of the topic you have chosen.
1. Write about someone you admire very much and explain why that person is special to you.
2. Suggest some of the activities that the older and younger members of a family can enjoy doing together.
3. “Teenagers find it hard to handle money sensibly.” Do you agree?
4. Bullying.
5. Write about what happened when two friends found a suspicious-looking parcel which led to a very unexpected result.
6. What can people learn from preparing for and taking part in competitions?

You are advised to write between 180 and 250 words for this section.
You should read the information carefully and plan your answer before beginning to write.
The Singapore Young Friends’ Committee has invited students to participate in their Overseas Community Involvement Programme. The selected students will spend two weeks in the December vacation in another country helping young children in schools. You would like to do this.
Write a formal letter to the Singapore Young Friends’ Committee in support of your application.
In your letter you should include the following:
• A few general ideas about yourself
• Details of how you could help in the classroom
• How you could help with outdoor activities
• Why you would like to be chosen
• How you would benefit from this experience.
Remember in your letter to the Committee, you want to persuade them that you are enthusiastic and would be an asset to their overseas programme. You should include appropriate addresses and begin your letter, Dear Sirs.
