TMS Sec 4E5N MYE 2010 1127 Paper 1 for practice in BTT and NSP in S.H.S.S.2010

Section One (30 marks)
You are advised to write between 350 and 500 words on one of the following topics.  At the head of your composition, write the number of the topic that you have chosen. 

1.  "Music is the universal language of mankind."  Why is music considered as an important part of life? 

2.  Debt.

3.  Write about an occasion when you were forced to overcome a phobia. 

4.  What factors would make a person from your age group popular? 

5.  Describe the most impactful event in your life and explain how this event has affected you. 

Section Two (30 marks)
You are advised to write between 250 and 350 words for this section.  You should read the information carefully and plan your answer before beginning to write. 

The school Community Involvement Programme (CIP) Committee, headed by the Vice Principal, has decided to let students have more say in what they would like to do. 

Several areas have been suggested as to what you can do to serve the community:

Serve the Senior Citizens
  • 20-hour involvement (including preparation)
  • serve in one of the approved Old Folks' HOmes in the east
  • meet the needs of the Senior Citizens
  • put up a performance item
  • write a reflection for submission to English teachers
  • Saturday (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
Raise funds for Diabetic Patients
  • 25-hour involvement (including preparation)
  • sell flags on Sudnay morning
  • 5-km run at Marina Bay on Saturday morning
  • Set up booth in the school canteen to raise awareness to educate the school about the illness
Caring for the Environment
  • 40-hour involvement (no preparetion needed)
  • adopt a park near the vicinity of the school
  • clean up the park once fortnightly on ten Saturday mornings
  • share with the school on a morning assembly on the need to care for the environment
As the Class Representative, you have been asked by your teacher to lead the class in deciding which would be the msot appropriate for your class.  When you have made your choice, you should write a proposal to the committee, addressed to the Vice Principal, indicating your decision. 

In your proposal,
  • explain how the class came to the decision
  • say what objectives the class hoped to achieve
  • give details on how the class would prepare for the event
Your proposal should be in clear, correct English with a polite and convincing tone, persuading the committee that the activity is hte most suitable for the class.
