Again another report...
The Education Ministry has identified your school as one of the few that will undergo a facilities-upgrading programme.
The Principal of your school wants to ensure that this upgrading programme will provide a more stimulating learning environment in your school. You are the chairperson of a committee of students which has been asked to suggest ways of upgrading the school facilities. You have been asked to choose the best idea and report its details to the Principal.
The committee meeting produced four ideas:
Janet's idea:
"Now that we have Science and Cultural Flexibility learning stations, we could also create one for the English, Mathematics, Humanities and Art departments. This would inject more vibrancy to the school. Unfortunately, without the home room system, this might not work as well."
Keng Hoong's idea:
"The size of our school library could be doubled and more features must be added to provide a great learning environment. The library hours could be extended too. However, this would mean more cost and manpower to the school.
Sabariah's idea:
"We should have a second and bigger auditorium. This would enable teachers to conduct lectures for all students of the same level. But subject banding would be necessary before this could take place. Our performing arts students could also organise weekly lunch time concerts here, though this might demand more of their time."
Kok Hiong's idea:
"We could engage the developer of Botanic Gardens to reconstruct our school landscape, especially our eco-garden. This would inevitably mean finding another temporary location to house the school for a year or two."
Decide which idea you think is the best for the purpose. Write a report for the Principal, giving the reasons for your choice. Explain in detail why you think this will be the most successful way in providing a stimulating learning environment, thereby helping the students to perform even better in examinations. Include in your report your suggestions on how the project can be organised.
